Kitchen Design – Choosing the Right Design for Your Kitchen

Kitchen Design – Choosing the Right Design for Your Kitchen

Kitchen remodelling, unlike any other home remodelling plan has to be done with the utmost care and detail. Your kitchen is a place where the entire family gathers for dinner after a hard-working day.

Deciding on the kitchen design can be tricky. Here are a few kitchen layouts that you can choose for your kitchen.

The Single Line Layout

This is the simplest design for small, narrow sized kitchens that have one wall measuring more than ten feet long without windows and doors. If you are opting for this design, ensure that the sink is placed in the centre of the platform. This helps as you do not have to walk from one end to another for small tasks.

The L Shape Layout

This type of kitchen layout is ideal for big sized family kitchens as it has ample room for dining tables and chairs to be housed in the same area. This layout facilitates easy movement of traffic as the two adjoining walls are utilised perfectly in the design.

The Corridor Layout

Corridor layout ensures effective utilisation of space as the two opposite rows aid in enough preparation space and also moving between different activity areas. While implementing this kitchen design, ensure that drawers on opposite sides open easily without coming in contact with each other. Cooking and cleaning areas should be on the same side. This ensures less risk of accidents when moving hot utensils between the range and kitchen.

The U shape layout

This layout uses three walls of the room. With this layout, different things like fridge, microwave and cooking stove can be placed in convenient locations. The U shape layout also provides additional storage space.

Selecting a Layout

The layout you select for your kitchen will depend on the position of doors and windows, available space and position of waste pipes and other sockets. Once you have studied these factors, you can decide on the kitchens design.

Kitchen Design Guidelines

  • Do not place dishwashers and microwaves at any extreme corner as it creates dead space. It also blocks access to cabinets and drawers when doors are left open.
  • The sink should be installed in a place where there is enough space to prepare food on both sides.
  • Always place the dishwasher close to the sink as this helps in easy loading and unloading of utensils.
  • Include multiple power points near different kitchen appliances.

Before you decide to go ahead with your kitchen design, it is important that you find out the answers to these questions:

What Are Your Needs?

You may want to go for a brand new kitchen design just because your neighbours have got the latest kitchen fittings. Though your kitchen tools might be working perfectly, you still want to upgrade to match with others.

On the other hand, you may decide to go for a completely new kitchen design with the latest tools and appliances loaded with modern features. Decide on your needs and then choose a design accordingly.

Is It Worth It?

Before deciding your kitchen design, you should consider how much does it add to your home in terms of monetary value. When you are investing so much, you obviously want good returns when you sell the house.
