Tamang Heritage Trail

The Tamang Heritage Trail is a new trekking trail developed in Nepal. This trekking trial is very near from Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal. This trekking trail is situated to the north of Kathmandu. It takes about 7-8 hours from Kathmandu to reach the starting point of the trek. The trek starts and ends at Syabrubesi. This trek provides the trekkers the chance to know the culture of the Tamang community, along with the view of spectacular natural beauties. The trekkers can also enjoy the healing baths in natural hot springs.

The local of this trekking route mostly belong to Tamang community. It is said that all the Tamangs residing here are the Tibetan people migrating to Nepal for permanent settlement. It is believed that the ancestors of the Tamang people of the present days were the Tibetan sect people who flew from Tibet to reside in Nepal. Then they started staying in Nepal permanently and changed their Tibetan caste to Tamang. The culture and traditions of the Tamang people residing on this trail resembles to that of the Tibetan people living across the Nepal – China border. Tamang community people living on and near this new trekking trail celebrate Lhosar. The other most important religious festivals celebrated by the Tamangs are Buddha Jayanti, Dashain and Tihar. They enjoy the festivals by performing a dance named ‘Selo’. The musical instruments named as ‘Dhampu’ are played by the gents of Tamang community whereas ladies perform the dance. Trekkers trekking on this season to this trail can enjoy the fun of Selo dance with the locals as well as taste the local cuisine of Tamang.

During this trek the trekkers can enjoy an awesome view of Langtang ranges as well as they can enjoy the amazing scenes of the forests covered with red Rhododendron flowers. Blooming of the Rhododendron on the hills of this trail make the hills look red, which becomes more attractive. All these help to make the trek more and more beautiful. The trek is short and not so tough as well as is also a cheap trekking route in comparison to other treks. Hence, this trek will certainly suit to every trekkers. This area was previously enlisted as a restricted area for the tourists travel but has been recently opened.

Since, the trail moves along the Tamang village the trekkers get the chance to enjoy the social life with the locals. They can also interact with the friendly and hospitable locals and also learn their new lifestyle, languages, etc. It’s not always the tourists who learn, the locals too get the chance to learn new ideas, tourist’s culture, etc. The closeness and interactions between the locals and the tourists bring the chance of eradicating orthodox as well as superstitious behavior from the society.
