San Pedro cactus is a cactus plant that has pillar with 4 to around 9 ribbons. The plant grows pretty fast and has a root system that is very strong with branching starting from the stem base. The cactus keeps growing until it falls under its weight and after the fall it roots again and produces new branches. The plant has been traditionally used for healing and divination and it’s very popular among shamans.
It can be taken dry without the inclusion of wooden stems and thorns. The edible parts are then ground fine to avoid stomach problems. Among the effects of using this herb include seeing and feeling every ray of light, extreme sensitivity to light, seeing people and other things radiate and seeing magical light, Other emotions that may take effect after consumption are crying, screaming, fear, love, feeling pleasure and laughing. With its religious background, most people are now taking it to have that heavenly feel and sight. Below is a simple method of how you can brew San Pedro cactus.
Step 1 – Skin the cactus. De-spinning it would be the best starting point before then carefully cutting away the dark green skin of the plant. Using a serrated knife cut away white flesh until you are in the core of the plant and then dispose everything else but the white flesh.
Step 2 – Go ahead and prepare the flesh. You can use the traditional method where you cut the flesh into small chunks, adding them in a bowl and using potato smasher to pulverize. The most modern method of preparing the flesh would be to cut the flesh into chunks and throwing in your blender, adding water and then blending to pulverize.
Step 3 – Pour the flesh puree in a crock pot and add enough water. A good amount would be just enough to fill the pot. You can then add juice of 2 large lemons into the mixture.
Step 4 – Allow the mixture to boil lightly and then cook for at least 6 hours. If you are following the traditional way of preparing the brew, then it would be a good idea to pulverize some more and then allowing 12 hours to 36 hours of cooking.
Step 5 – Using a clean sheet of cloth, filter the pulp. You can secure the cloth over a bog bowl using rubber band so you can have an easier time filtering. Pour the juice mixture through strainer and then allow it to sit.
Step 6 – Allow the pulp to cool before then wrapping it in a clean cloth and squeeze out the remaining liquid. You can then dispose the pulp.
Step 7 – Pour the juice in your teapot and boil under low slow heat. You can set your fan on to assist the evaporation process. After a few hours of boiling, the juice should be around 2 ounces of a double shot amount.
Step 8 – After evaporating to 1 oz, pour into a glass pie pan and heat with a fan for 24 hours so you have resin in the end. You can then take the resin like substance and roll into balls and then coat with lemon juice to make candy.
